Chaperone Policy
You are always in control of your examination. A chaperone is your right.
Some parts of male pelvic health assessment and treatment can be intimate — including, where clinically appropriate and only with your consent, an internal (rectal) examination. We want you to feel safe, informed and in control at every step.
You can ask for a chaperone at any time — a second, trained person present during your examination or treatment. Just say the word, before or during your appointment. If you'd prefer not to have one, that's your choice too.
What a chaperone does
- Is present to support and reassure you during examination or treatment.
- Acts as an independent observer that the appointment is professional and appropriate.
- Is a trained member of the team, bound by the same confidentiality as your clinician.
Consent, always
Nothing intimate happens without a clear explanation first and your explicit consent. You can pause, ask questions, decline any part, or stop at any time — and it will never affect the quality of your care. You may also bring someone you trust to your appointment.
Arranging one in advance
If you'd like a chaperone booked ahead of time, let us know when you make your appointment on 07902 389456 and we'll arrange it.
